'House' to bow out on Fox

Fox has cancelled 'House' after eight seasons. The Hugh Laurie-starrer has been on the air since 2004. Fox will say goodbye to Dr. House at the end of this season. The network has opted not to order a ninth season of the Hugh Laurie starrer from NBCUniversal's Universal TV unit. "House" bowed on Fox in 2004 at a time when the network's drama slate was at a low ebb. The medical drama was a slow builder but eventually blossomed into a major tentpole for the network. In the past two seasons, however, the show's aud has dropped off while its production costs have climbed. The show was almost canceled after last season because of cost concerns, as Universal TV pushed Fox for a higher license fee.
