'21 Jump Street' Sequel Already In Development

In addition to the uptick in the promotional campaign for "21 Jump Street," via trailers, outdoor advertising and more, there are already mumblings about a sequel in the works. Star Jonah Hill let it slip at the Oscars that there is already talk about beginning work on the sequel's script. Some might say talk of a sequel to a film that has yet to be released is a touch preemptive, but to its credit the "Jump Street" reboot that also features Channing Tatum, Rob Riggle and Dave Franco has been generating great word-of-mouth buzz and leaving advance screening audiences in stitches. MTV News caught up with very busy screenwriter Michael Bacall (who is also responsible for outrageous party movie "Project X") recently to get an update on where things stand for the continued adventures of Schmidt and Jenko. "All I can really say is that Im working on it," Bacall said. "I met with Jonah and Channing and all the producers and executives and yeah, were looking to get it going as quickly as possible. Im about to start the draft." The "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" writer revealed that both Hill and Tatum had great ideas about what they might do with their characters in another film. "Its a really wonderful thing when the people youre writing for, it starts off with them having terrific ideas because it only gets better from there, so were pretty excited about it," Bacall said. He then offered up one hint about what adventure or assignment the boys might have as undercover cops the next time around - should the film be officially greenlit after Bacall writes the script, of course. "I think if youve watched the movie, by the end youll have a pretty good idea where the sequel takes place," he teased, adding that fans can likely expect more high profile and surprise cameos. "Im sure the guys will come up with something fun. Im still recovering from the cameos in the first one."
